Hello, !

Ever wish you were invited to more places by people?

I used to think about that a lot - sitting at home just staring at a text to come in inviting me over to someone’s house to hang out or having an impromptu margarita night like they do on Sweet Magnolias.

I was craving the connection and thought that no one liked me.

I’ll be honest about that because I hear it said by my kids and other adults.

When we’re lonely, we think we are the problem.

Only if we were less awkward, better at conversation, knew what to say, dressed better, and lost weight
 would we have more friends.

Guess what? That’s absolutely false.

Sitting in another living room a few houses away, another woman thinks the same thing.

They think it’s them.

They see these pictures of people having fun on Instagram or gathering together at parties and think, “Why don’t people like me?”

I know because I was one.

Until one single therapy session brought it to a stop.

I was complaining about how no one invited me anywhere when my counselor looked me straight in the eye and said,

“JoAnn, if you want to do something, you must make the first step.”

 and I remembered that.

It gave me a little bit of power back.

I started planning get-togethers with friends and family and got that fun and togetherness I wanted.

In addition, people often thanked me for calling and planning it.

I have a huge drive for connection. If you’re having the same thoughts I did, you might have that unmet need, too.

My suggestion: Time to put yourself out there.

Today we start the Read The Room Parenting Challenge where we’ll be on Zoom with other women exactly like you!

I encourage you to come and upgrade to VIP for $1, where you’ll be placed in groups with others to get that face-to-face connection.

I know how scary it can be.

But, trust me, going through that initial awkwardness is the only way to get that connection you’re craving right now.

See you there!

This Week on the No Guilt Mom Podcast

Have you ever felt like all your stuff is just closing in on you? Do you find yourself questioning, “do I actually NEED rubber spatulas in 3 different sizes??"

We live in a time where there is just a lot of things - and we’re not market experts or anything, but we don’t see it getting any better.

Enter: Katy Wells. Katy is a declutter expert and host of The Maximized Minimalist Podcast. She helps families create homes that are easy to maintain and joyful to live in. Katy is the proud mom of two boys, ages 7 and 9.

Katy's joining us on the pod this week and we’re getting real, talking about life priorities, the true necessities of life, and reminding you that your home does NOT need to be perfect - it just needs to work for you and your family.

If you’re feeling like your home is attacking you with all the things the moment you walk in the door, this is your cue to go lay down somewhere, close your eyes (because we don’t want you looking at all that stuff and getting anxious!) and take a listen to Episode 268: How Decluttering Will Help You Handle Tough Situations with Katy Wells.

No Guilt Mom Spotlight

Here’s a testimonial from Ashley, one of our 2024 Lotus Award Recipients:

Being in Balance has been great! I've learned a lot and met other awesome moms!

Before Balance, I felt like a failure for not being able to do everything. I was exhausted and overwhelmed, which also made it hard to get everything done at work and elsewhere. I felt very stuck and like I couldn't do anything right or good enough.

But now I know that I am not a broken failure. Change is possible, both with me and my kids. I can do hard things! I am taking time in the mornings to stretch, journal, read and meditate which allows me to stay calm and grounded.

I'm able to stay more positive, calmer and less reactive. I try to understand where my kids are coming from instead of just reacting. I ask them questions instead of making assumptions. Things are still a work in progress but going much better and I don't feel as much like I'm playing Whack-A-Mole!

The core values exercise has been especially useful in helping me make decisions and reminding my why I want to do certain things and that it's ok to prioritize these things since they are important to me! I'm slowly getting my confidence back! :)

Trivia Answer 🧐

Trick question!! June has both the longest AND the shortest periods of daylight! June 20th is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and it’s also the shortest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere! On the Summer Solstice, Phoenix will experience approximately 14 hours 22 minutes and 17 seconds of daylight between sunrise and sunset, while there will only be 10 hours 56 minutes and 23 seconds of daylight in Oyster Bay, Rodrigues, Mauritius - Phoenix’s antipode.

(Bonus bit of trivia this week: the term antipode means “the direct opposite of something else” so when it comes to geography, the antipode of any city is the city located all the way on the opposite side of the world!)
